Why Autoposting Is Not Working in Telegram and MAX: Errors and Fixes
A detailed troubleshooting guide for Telegram and MAX autoposting with Votway: why posts do not publish, how to check channel connections, sources, queues, schedules, time zones, bot permissions, special dates, advertising timers, and AI.
If autoposting is not working in Telegram or MAX, troubleshoot it as a chain: channel connection → source → queue → publishing mode → schedule → time zone → special dates → permissions → AI. In most cases, the problem appears at one of these stages.
In Votway, autoposting is a sequential workflow:
Source → queue → publishing rules → Telegram or MAX.
With AI:
Source → queue → AI → publishing rules → Telegram or MAX.
A failure or mismatch at any stage can cause a post to be skipped, delayed, sent to the wrong channel, or published in an unexpected form.
Why autoposting may stop working
Common causes include:
- the wrong destination channel is selected;
- the Telegram account is not connected correctly;
- the source is not selected;
- the source has stopped producing new posts;
- the queue is empty;
- the wrong queue mode is selected;
- the active weekday is disabled;
- the expected time is not in the schedule;
- the wrong time zone is selected;
- a special date overrides the normal schedule;
- Advertising timer is active instead of Schedule;
- the Telegram bot cannot publish;
- the source post is no longer available;
- AI processing changes or interrupts the expected output;
- settings are mixed up across several channels.
The fastest way to find the cause is to check each layer in order rather than changing everything at once.
Error 1. The wrong destination channel is selected
When several Telegram or MAX channels are managed, it is easy to configure the wrong destination.
Autoposting may technically work while the post appears somewhere else.
Check:
- selected platform;
- channel name;
- connected account;
- destination channel;
- source-to-destination mapping.
This is especially important after reusing similar settings across several projects.
Error 2. The Telegram account is not connected
Telegram workflows require a connected account.
In Votway, the Telegram account is connected first, after which the required channel is selected.
If the connection was not completed or is no longer active, publication cannot work as expected.
Confirm the connection status before checking more complex settings.
Error 3. The correct Telegram channel was not selected
A connected account does not automatically mean the correct channel is configured.
Select the actual destination channel.
If it is missing from the list or another project is selected, refresh the connection and review the available channels.
Error 4. The bot does not have the Post Messages permission
For Telegram publishing, @autoposting_control_bot needs the Post Messages permission.
If this permission is disabled, the bot cannot publish to the channel.
Check:
- Open the Telegram channel.
- Open channel management.
- Open Administrators.
- Find @autoposting_control_bot.
- Confirm Post Messages is enabled.
- Save changes.
- Return to Votway and refresh the connection.
Permissions such as adding subscribers or additional administrators are not required for the basic publishing function.
Error 5. The wrong bot was added
Always check the username.
The required bot is:
@autoposting_control_bot
A different bot with a similar display name will not work.
Use the username, not only the visible name, for verification.
Error 6. No source is selected
A destination channel can be configured correctly while the workflow still has no content source.
Confirm that you selected:
- a Votway source;
or:
- one of My sources.
A schedule does not generate content.
It only controls when available content can be published.
Error 7. The source has stopped publishing new content
With New posts only, the queue depends on fresh source posts.
If the source stops updating, no new items enter the queue.
Scheduled slots may then be skipped.
Check:
- when the source last published;
- whether new items are appearing;
- whether source frequency can support your schedule.
Error 8. The queue is empty
This is one of the most common causes.
If there is no available item in the queue, there is nothing to publish.
Example:
Schedule: 10 and 18.
New source item appears: 13.
At 10 the queue was empty, so the slot was skipped.
By 18 the item is available and can be published.
An empty queue is not always a technical failure. It can be normal behavior for the selected mode.
Error 9. New posts only is selected, but you expect archive posts
With New posts only, existing archive content is not the main queue source.
If you connect a source and expect old posts to start publishing, that expectation does not match this mode.
Use:
New and old posts
when archive content is required.
Error 10. New and old posts is selected, but the archive is no longer suitable
The opposite problem can happen too.
Autoposting may work technically while the actual content is outdated.
Review:
- dates;
- prices;
- promotions;
- links;
- service names;
- events;
- software versions;
- offer terms.
If old material expires quickly, New posts only is usually safer.
Error 11. The source and destination were mixed up
This is common in Telegram → MAX or multi-channel setups.
You may expect:
Telegram A → MAX A
while the actual configuration is:
Telegram B → MAX A.
Check separately:
Source — where the content comes from.
Destination — where it is published.
Do not rely only on similar channel names.
Error 12. The source post was deleted before publication
If a source post is deleted before it reaches the destination publishing stage, that item can be skipped because the original material is no longer available.
If only one item is missing:
- check whether the source post still exists;
- confirm it was not deleted;
- compare it with neighboring queue items.
When all other posts publish normally, the issue may be specific to that one source item.
Error 13. The required weekday is disabled
The source and queue may work correctly while the schedule blocks publication.
Check whether the current weekday is active.
If the workflow publishes only Monday through Friday, a normal scheduled post will not go out on Saturday or Sunday.
Error 14. The expected time is not in the schedule
Confirm that the expected publishing slot actually exists.
For example, if the schedule contains only 10 and 14, a post will not automatically publish at 18.
Compare your expectation with the actual schedule.
Error 15. The wrong time zone is selected
This is easy to overlook.
You can configure 18 while the service interprets that time in another time zone.
For an audience using Moscow time, for example, you can select Europe/Moscow (UTC+3).
Compare:
- selected time zone;
- scheduled time;
- actual publication time.
Error 16. A special date overrides the weekly schedule
Special dates take priority over the normal weekly plan.
For example:
normal Tuesday — 2 posts.
one specific date — 0 posts.
On that date, the normal Tuesday schedule will not run.
Always check special dates when a post is unexpectedly skipped.
Error 17. A special date is set to 0 posts
This can be configured intentionally and later forgotten.
If the selected date has 0 posts, the normal schedule is overridden.
Remove or change the special date if publishing should resume.
Error 18. Advertising timer is selected instead of Schedule
Votway supports:
Schedule
or:
Advertising timer.
With Advertising timer, publication timing follows a different rule.
The next post depends on the configured delay after advertising, not only on a fixed clock time.
If you expect a post exactly at 18, confirm that Schedule is actually selected.
Error 19. The advertising timer is still waiting
When Advertising timer is active, the next regular post does not necessarily publish immediately.
It waits for the configured interval after the advertising post.
The flow becomes:
Advertising → interval → next queue item.
That can look like a delay even when the system is working exactly as configured.
Error 20. The schedule is too dense for the source
If the source produces 2 new items per day but the schedule contains 8 slots, some slots will have no content.
This does not mean the service is broken.
The source simply cannot supply that publishing volume.
Possible fixes:
- reduce frequency;
- choose a more active source;
- use archive content when appropriate;
- add another suitable source.
Error 21. The schedule is too sparse
If the source publishes many items but the destination uses only a few slots, the queue grows.
Content can then be delayed significantly.
This is especially risky for news.
Possible fixes:
- add more publishing slots;
- narrow the source;
- split content across several channels;
- reduce archive use.
Error 22. Outdated content accumulated during a pause
Source items can continue accumulating while a workflow is paused.
After publishing resumes, the queue may contain items that were fresh when created but are now outdated.
Before restarting, review:
- dates;
- events;
- promotions;
- links;
- time-sensitive news.
Error 23. A template was applied without checking individual settings
Templates reduce repeated setup, but the copied settings still need review.
Especially:
- destination;
- source;
- time zone;
- weekdays;
- publishing times;
- special dates;
- queue mode;
- AI setting.
A template can be correct for one project and wrong for another.
Error 24. Random distribution changed the expected publishing times
If random distribution was used, publishing times may differ from the original schedule you had in mind.
Always review the generated times after applying random distribution.
Otherwise, the system can be correct while still publishing at an unexpected hour.
Error 25. Telegram and MAX use different schedules
When one source feeds both platforms, do not assume identical publication times.
For example:
Telegram: 10 and 18.
MAX: 12 and 20.
A delay between Telegram and MAX can therefore be completely normal.
Error 26. Telegram → MAX is being treated as instant mirroring
A queue-based workflow does not necessarily mean instant copying.
The flow can be:
Telegram → queue → MAX schedule → publication.
If the Telegram post appears at 09
and the next MAX slot is 12, the item may wait.That is normal queue behavior.
Error 27. AI rewriting produces an unexpected result
When AI is enabled, another processing stage appears between the queue and publication.
The workflow is:
Source → queue → AI → publication.
If the final text looks wrong, check:
- the original source item;
- whether the meaning was preserved;
- whether numbers changed;
- whether important links disappeared;
- whether names were altered;
- whether dates or terms changed.
AI does not guarantee factual accuracy.
Error 28. AI is being used for content that should not be changed
Some publications should not be rewritten automatically.
For example:
- legally significant notices;
- official quotations;
- exact pricing;
- promotion terms;
- commercial offers;
- contractual wording.
If a post must remain exact, use standard autoposting without AI.
Error 29. Telegram-specific elements remain when publishing to MAX
For Telegram → MAX, review:
- t.me links;
- Telegram bot mentions;
- “subscribe on Telegram” calls to action;
- discussion links;
- references to platform-specific features.
The publication may technically work while still looking wrong for MAX.
Error 30. One source is being used for an unsuitable channel
Autoposting can work technically while the content itself is irrelevant.
The source may be too broad or mismatched to the destination.
Check:
- topic fit;
- audience;
- update frequency;
- tone;
- amount of unwanted material.
Automation does not fix a bad source.
Error 31. Settings are mixed up across multiple channels
The more projects you manage, the easier it is to edit the wrong workflow.
For every destination, verify:
- platform;
- destination channel;
- source;
- queue mode;
- schedule;
- time zone;
- AI setting;
- special dates.
Review one workflow at a time.
Error 32. You expect an older post while using New posts only
This is a common expectation mismatch.
If the post existed before the source was connected, it does not belong to the fresh flow used by New posts only.
Use New and old posts when archive content is required.
Error 33. Archive content repeats and is mistaken for a bug
With New and old posts, archive items may be reused after the queue is exhausted.
If repeated archive content does not fit your strategy, this mode may not be appropriate.
Use New posts only for a fresh-only flow.
Error 34. The source updates less often than expected
A source can look active while still producing too few suitable items for your schedule.
Compare:
- number of new source posts per day;
- number of publishing slots;
- actual number of available items.
This reveals whether the source can support the chosen frequency.
Error 35. The problem affects only one post, not the whole workflow
If most publications work but one item is missing, do not immediately rebuild the entire setup.
Check that specific source item:
- does it still exist;
- was it deleted;
- does it use an unusual format;
- is it different from neighboring posts;
- did AI processing behave differently.
A local problem and a system-wide problem should be diagnosed differently.
Error 36. Settings were changed but the next cycle was not tested
After changing the schedule, queue, or source, wait for the next valid publishing cycle and review the result.
Avoid changing several parameters at once.
Otherwise, it becomes difficult to know which change actually fixed the problem.
Step-by-step autoposting troubleshooting
Use the same diagnostic order every time.
Step 1. Check the platform and destination
Confirm that the correct Telegram or MAX channel is selected.
Step 2. Check the connection
For Telegram, confirm the account is connected and the channel is available.
Step 3. Check Telegram bot permissions
@autoposting_control_bot should have Post Messages enabled.
Step 4. Check the source
Confirm that new or archive items exist according to the selected queue mode.
Step 5. Check the queue
Confirm there is a next item available.
Step 6. Check the queue mode
New posts only or New and old posts.
Step 7. Check the publishing mode
Schedule or Advertising timer.
Step 8. Check the weekday and time
Confirm an active publishing slot exists.
Step 9. Check the time zone
Make sure it matches the expected publication time.
Step 10. Check special dates
Confirm there is no date-specific override.
Step 11. Check AI
If enabled, compare the original and rewritten version.
Step 12. Test one next publishing cycle
Do not change everything at once.
Troubleshooting table: problem → likely cause → what to check
| Problem | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Post did not publish | Empty queue | Is an item available? |
| Telegram does not publish | Bot lacks permission | Post Messages |
| Post published later | Wrong time zone | Time zone |
| No post today | Special date | Is it set to 0 posts? |
| Old posts do not publish | New posts only | Queue mode |
| Old posts appear | Archive enabled | New and old posts |
| MAX publishes later than Telegram | Different schedules | MAX schedule |
| No post after advertising | Timer is waiting | Ad interval |
| One post is missing | Source item unavailable | Was it deleted? |
| Text changed | AI enabled | Processing mode |
| Channel is quiet after a pause | No current content | Queue and source |
| Queue keeps growing | Too few slots | Publishing frequency |
If Telegram autoposting is not working
Use this order:
- Check the connected Telegram account.
- Check the destination channel.
- Check @autoposting_control_bot.
- Confirm Post Messages is enabled.
- Check the source.
- Check the queue.
- Check the schedule.
- Check the time zone.
- Check special dates.
- Wait for the next valid slot.
If only one source item is affected, diagnose that item first.
If MAX autoposting is not working
Check:
- MAX is selected as the platform.
- The correct destination channel is connected.
- A source is selected.
- An item exists in the queue.
- The queue mode is correct.
- A schedule is configured.
- The time zone is correct.
- No special date blocks publication.
- Advertising timer is not unexpectedly active.
- You are not expecting instant Telegram → MAX mirroring.
If Telegram is the source, also check whether the source post appeared and entered the queue.
If Telegram → MAX is not working
Check the chain:
Telegram source → queue → MAX.
In order:
- did the new Telegram post appear;
- was it deleted;
- is the correct Telegram source selected;
- did the item enter the queue;
- is there an upcoming MAX slot;
- is a special date overriding the schedule;
- is the time zone correct;
- is AI enabled and producing a valid result.
Do not confuse scheduled cross-posting with instant mirroring.
If posts publish at the wrong time
Check these first:
1. Scheduled time.
2. Time zone.
3. Special dates.
Then verify the publishing mode.
If Advertising timer is active, a fixed clock time may not be the main condition.
If some posts are skipped
Possible causes include:
- the queue is occasionally empty;
- the source updates irregularly;
- a source post was deleted;
- New posts only is selected;
- there is no publishing slot;
- a special date changed the plan.
Compare skipped items with posts that published successfully.
If old posts appear again
Check the queue mode first.
With New and old posts, archive reuse after queue exhaustion can occur.
If that does not fit your content strategy, move to a fresh-only workflow and review the configuration before scaling further.
If new posts do not appear
Check:
- whether the source actually published a new item;
- whether it appeared after the source was connected;
- whether it was deleted;
- whether you are looking at the correct workflow;
- whether the correct source is selected.
Multi-channel setups make source mix-ups especially easy.
If the queue grows too quickly
This is not necessarily a system error.
The source may simply create more content than the destination can publish.
Possible fixes:
- increase publishing frequency;
- narrow the source;
- split content across several channels;
- reduce archive use.
Long queues are especially risky for news.
If the queue is always empty
Possible fixes:
- reduce the number of slots;
- choose a more active source;
- use archive content when the topic is evergreen;
- add another suitable source;
- combine manual and automated publishing.
Do not expect the schedule to produce more content than the source provides.
If AI rewrites the content incorrectly
Do not try to fix an AI-processing problem by changing the schedule.
Compare:
Original source post
and:
AI-rewritten output.
If critical information changes, use standard autoposting for that content type.
If links look wrong after publication
Check:
- t.me links;
- Telegram bot URLs;
- internal platform links;
- advertising URLs;
- calls to action.
This is especially important in Telegram → MAX workflows.
How to test a fix correctly
Change one parameter at a time.
For example:
Test 1
Keep the source unchanged and fix the bot permission.
Test 2
Keep permissions unchanged and test the queue.
Test 3
Keep the queue unchanged and correct the time zone.
This makes the root cause much easier to identify.
Why you should not rebuild the entire autoposting workflow immediately
Rebuilding everything can hide the real problem.
If the cause was only:
- an empty queue;
- one missing permission;
- a special date;
- a time zone mismatch;
then recreating the whole workflow only adds more variables.
Localize the issue first.
How to prevent errors across several channels
Use a consistent structure.
For every workflow, record:
- platform;
- destination channel;
- source;
- queue mode;
- publishing mode;
- weekdays;
- times;
- time zone;
- AI option;
- special dates.
The larger the network, the more useful this checklist becomes.

Frequently asked questions
Why is Telegram autoposting not publishing posts?
Check the connected account and destination channel, @autoposting_control_bot permissions, source, queue, schedule, time zone, and special dates.
Why is MAX autoposting not working?
Check the destination channel, source, queue availability, publishing mode, schedule, time zone, and special dates.
Why was one post skipped?
An empty queue is a common cause. Also check the special date, schedule, and whether the original source post still exists.
Why are old posts not being published?
If New posts only is selected, archive content is not used. Choose New and old posts when archive material is required.
Why are old posts repeating?
With New and old posts, archive content may be reused after the queue is exhausted.
Why did a post publish at the wrong time?
Check the scheduled time, time zone, special dates, and selected publishing mode.
Why is the Telegram bot not publishing?
Make sure the bot is exactly @autoposting_control_bot and that Post Messages is enabled.
Why does Telegram → MAX publish with a delay?
If MAX uses its own schedule, the item can remain in the queue until the next destination publishing slot.
Why did one specific Telegram → MAX post not publish?
Check whether the original Telegram post still exists, whether it was deleted, and whether the item entered the queue.
What happens when the queue is empty?
Without an available source item, a publishing slot may be skipped. The schedule does not create new content by itself.
What should I do if the queue is always empty?
Reduce frequency, review source activity, use a different source, or enable archive content when the topic safely allows it.
What should I do if the queue keeps growing?
Increase publishing capacity, narrow the source, or distribute content across several channels.
Why did AI change important data?
AI can alter wording and introduce mistakes. Exact prices, dates, terms, and official wording should be reviewed manually.
Can a special date disable the normal schedule?
Yes. Special dates override the weekly schedule. If a date is set to 0 posts, normal publishing will not run that day.
What is the difference between Schedule and Advertising timer?
Schedule uses fixed days and times. Advertising timer uses a configured interval after an advertising post.
Do I need to recreate autoposting whenever something goes wrong?
No. First check the connection, source, queue, schedule, time zone, special dates, and permissions in order.
What is the fastest way to find the cause?
Change one setting at a time and test the next publishing cycle. This makes it easier to identify the actual cause.
